Ingredients
1 lb (450g) ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
1 small onion (chopped)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (drained)
1 1/2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth)
1/2 cup heavy cream
8 oz (about 2 cups) large pasta shells
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)
Fresh basil or parsley (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
1. Cook the Pasta:
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the pasta shells according to the package instructions, typically about 9-11 minutes until al dente.
Drain the pasta and set it aside.
2. Cook the Ground Beef:
While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat.
Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
3. Add the Vegetables and Seasoning:
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan with the beef and cook for another 2-3 minutes until softened.
Stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, mixing well to combine.
